Beverly Longid
First Nominee
Bev is of Bontok and Kankanaey ancestry. She has been Chair of the Cordillera Peoples’ Alliance since October 2006. A graduate of law, Bev has also been working with Dinteg, the Cordillera Indigenous Peoples’ Law Center, since 1999, FLAG, the Free Legal Assistance Group, since 2002, and NUPL, the National Union of People’s Lawyers, since 2007.
Bev went to Easter School (now Easter College) for her elementary education, the University of the Philippines - Baguio for her secondary education, the Baguio Colleges Foundation (now University of the Cordilleras) to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and the University of Baguio to obtain a Bachelor of Laws degree.
Bev has one son.
Genasque Enriquez
Second Nominee
Genasque is of Manobo ancestry. He is a farmer, a single-motor driver, and community development worker. From 2005 to March 2009, he was Vice-Chair of MAPASU, Malahutayong Pakigbisog alang sa Sumusunod (Persistent Struggle for Future Generations), an organization of 22 Lumad communities in Lianga, San Agustin, Cagwait, and Tago in the province of Surigao del Sur. In April this year, he was elected General Secretary of the Kasalo Organization in the Caraga region.
Genasque is married and has three children.
Nelson Mallari
Third Nominee
Nelson is of Aeta ancestry. He represents the Aeta peoples in the National Council of KAMP, the Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (Federation of the Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines).
Nelson helped organize his fellow-Aeta in the aftermath of the Mount Pinatubo disaster of 1991. His work and that of his fellow organizers resulted in the founding of the Samahan ng mga Katutubong Aeta sa Nabuklod, Floridablanca (Organization of the Indigenous Aeta of Nabuklod, Floridablanca) and the Aguman dareng Katutubong Ayta keng Floridablanca (Federation of the Indigenous Aeta of Floridablanca). In 2001, Nelson was chosen to represent the Aeta of his area in the Executive Council of CLAA, the Central Luzon Aeta Association, and in 2003 was elected CLAA Secretary-General. In 2004, he became a spokesman of the national environmental coalition Defend Patrimony, and in 2008 became coordinator of the regional environmental alliance Protect Zambales.
Nelson is married and has two children.
